  28. 1. Introduction

  30. 1.1 General Information
  31. -----------------------
  32. IMPORTANT!
  33.         Read this README file and all the documentation
  34.         supplied BEFORE you continue the installation.
  35.         These documents contain useful information that will help you
  36.         complete the install procedure as quickly and easily as possible.
  37.  
  38.         Please be aware that you can use the full power of the Diamond 
  39.         FIRE GL 4000 only if the other components of your system, 
  40.         especially the graphic monitor that is being used, fully comply 
  41.         to the specifications for the Diamond FIRE GL 4000.
  42.         (For example : You cannot use the 1280x1024 resolution that is 
  43.         supported by the FIRE GL 4000 with a monitor supporting 
  44.         only resolutions up to 1024x768).
  45.         Dualscreen:
  46.         Dualscreen Hardware Support is only available with the Fire GL 2000
  47.         and 3000.

  50. 1.2 System preparation
  51. ======================
  52.  
  53.         Follow these steps before beginning the installation procedure:
  54.  
  55.         1) If you are upgrading the graphics card in your system,
  56.         return the display adapter settings back to 'Standard VGA',
  57.         then remove the graphics card to be replaced from your PC.
  58.  
  59.         2) Check the jumper settings on the card prior to installation
  60.         in the PC. Your board is shipped with the following jumper
  61.         settings as seen from the front:

  71.         Refer to the online user's manual or printed documentation

  74.         3) Follow the hardware installation instructions provided with
  75.         your card before beginning the software installation.

  77.         If you plan on installing Diamond Autocad productivity tools
  78.         ( BigFocus and 3D-Win ), make sure that AutoCAD release 13 or
  79.         higher is correctly installed first.

  81. 2. Installation
  82. ===============
  83.         The installation procedures described below refer to the
  84.         installation from the Diamond Fire GL 4000 SuperCD.

  86.  2.1 Installation under Windows 95
  87. ===========================================
  88.         Support for Windows 95 is provided through the onboard legacy
  89.         VGA controller in this release. The onboard Cirrus Logic 5446
  90.         controller supports basic resolutions and color depths. No
  91.         3D acceleration is provided when running Windows 95.
  92.  
  93.         Drivers for the onboard Cirrus logic controller are delivered
  94.         along with the Windows 95 operating system. Follow the
  95.         instructions provided to install the drivers for the Cirrus
  96.         Logic controller.

  98. 2.2 Installing the Windows NT 3.51/4.0 Driver
  99. =============================================
  100.         From the Windows Program Manager select 'File', then 'Run'.
  101.         Enter:

  107. 2.3 Choosing a Monitor
  108. ======================
  109.         For using the full power of your Diamond FIRE GL 4000 board, 
  110.         the graphics monitor you choose should be technically suitable 
  111.         for use with this board.
  112.         To select refresh rates in Windows NT click on the 'Display'
  113.         icon in the 'Control Panel'.
  114.

  120.         Only use settings that your monitor supports. If you specify 
  121.         settings that exceed the ratings specified for your monitor, 
  122.         you may permanently damage the monitor!
  123.         If you change the monitor, first check the ratings of the new 
  124.         monitor and, if necessary, reconfigure your settings accordingly!

  127. 3. Known Restrictions
  128. ======================
  129.         This software release provides support for OpenGL 1.0 under
  130.         Windows NT 3.51 and OpenGL 1.1 under NT 4.0 only. 
  131.         The on-board legacy VGA controller provides basic Win95 
  132.         compatibility without 3D acceleration.
  133.  
  134.         The onboard legacy VGA adapter must be enabled during
  135.         the installation procedure.
